We supply, install and support semiconductor process and handling equipment across the UK and Europe, for production fabs and research groups alike. Our service team is a mix of permanent staff and trusted freelance engineers, and we’re always keen to hear from good people who’d like to join it.
Field service engineers – permanent and freelance
We’re growing our field service capacity across the UK and Europe and are open to both permanent and freelance engineers. The work covers installation, commissioning, preventive maintenance and fault-finding on equipment from the manufacturers we represent, usually on customer sites and sometimes at short notice.
The equipment
Much of the work is wafer handling and automation, including SMIF loaders, FOUP load ports, EFEMs, wafer sorters and handling robots, with host communications over SECS/GEM. We also support lithography and wet processing equipment such as spin coaters, bake plates, coat and develop tracks and wet benches. Our principals include Fortrend, CEE, C&D Semiconductor and Modutek, and experience on other semiconductor process tools is just as relevant.
About the role
What we're looking for
Experience as a field service or equipment engineer on semiconductor tools matters most. Beyond that, any of these will help:
- Hands-on wafer handling: robot teaching, load ports, EFEMs or sorters
- Fault-finding across mechanical, pneumatic and electrical systems
- Installation and commissioning experience
- Knowledge of SECS/GEM and host tool communications
- Time on litho tracks, spin coaters or wet benches
- Cleanroom and safety training, such as LOTO and chemical handling
- Clear written English, with another European language a bonus
- Willingness to travel across the UK and Europe
If you’ve worked for an equipment manufacturer or in a fab and are confident working on your own on site, we’d like to hear from you.
Permanent or freelance
You can be based in any country we cover. That’s the UK and Ireland, all of mainland Europe and Scandinavia, plus Turkey and beyond. Somewhere with a good airport nearby helps.
Permanent roles are employed positions with SiSTEM, and we’ll talk through the package with you.
Freelance engineers work on a day rate plus travel and subsistence. You’ll need to be self-employed or run your own company, with public and professional liability insurance. You’ll also need the right to work in the countries you cover.
Either way, before your first job we’ll ask for your training certificates and take you through our health and safety induction.
